We’re looking for artwork to help us BUILD A BETTER Teen Scene website!
Create a work that captures the awesomeness of being a teen in Henrico. The winning design will be featured prominently on hcplteenscene.org. Entries will be accepted at any Henrico County Public Library location between Thursday June 1 and Thursday, August 31, 2017 – or you may send a digital copy to email@example.com
What types of artwork are eligible?
Entries should be at least 4” x 6” and no larger than 8 ½” x 14”. Entries are the property of HCPL and will not be returned.
All designs must be the original work of the entrant.
Designs should be in color. Computer-generated images may be used, but all components must be completely original. You may not use any copied images
Entries are limited to two (2) original pieces, digital art, or scanned art per student with a completed entry form attached to each; no staples please.
What are the awards?
Prizes are sponsored by the Friends of Henrico County Public Library.
First prize: $100 Barnes & Noble Gift Card
Second prize: $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card
Honorable mention: $25 Barnes & Noble Gift Card
Who can enter?
This contest is open to students in grades 6-12 (or equivalent) who are Henrico County residents, or students who hold a Henrico County Public Library card.
Are there Different Entry and Prize Categories by Age?
No. All entrants must be entering grades 6-12 (or equivalent) at the time of submission.
Read this summer and your brain won’t have such a hard time getting back to work in the fall. Read this summer, log your books online (here) as part of HCPL’s Summer Reading Club and you could win a branch-level prize of a four-pack of tickets to a race at RIR, OR the grand prize of a $50 gift card to your choice of Gamestop or Barnes & Noble!
Every teen who reads and logs at least five books gets a sports pack!

See your art on display at the library this summer! You’re invited to submit a superhero-themed design to decorate the windows in Teen Planet at Tuckahoe Area Library. Everyone who submits a design will receive one hour of community service. If your design is chosen, you’ll be invited to work with a team to paint your design on the windows and you’ll receive more community service credit for the time you work.
Here are the details…
- Submission deadline: Wednesday, April 29th
- Submit your design in color on 8.5 x 11 paper at the Adult Information Desk at Tuckahoe Area Library, or email your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org. Both hand-drawn and digital designs are welcome. Include your First & Last Name, Email Address, Telephone Number, and Grade with your design. Submissions without this information will not be considered.
- Open to students in grades 6-12. One design per student.
- One hour of community service granted for design submission. Email Mandy at email@example.com to schedule a time to have your community service log signed.
- Winner will work with staff and students to apply their design with safe, non-toxic window paints.

Summer Reading Club starts June 2nd!!
The theme this year is Fizz Boom Read! What can you get out of reading you ask? Well there are prizes to be had, including a drawing for an iPad mini for the grand finishing prize. Read anything you want, of course, but how about making something awesome by reading about Arduino circuits for example? What could you do with Arduino circuits, LED lights and maybe some Legos?
