Alice is a 17 year-old who wishes to seek revenge. Her twin sister set a fire that killed her boyfriend. Alice has been locked up in a mental institution called Savage Isle. She believes her sister is there too. Enlisting the help of a fellow patient named Chase, who doesn’t seem like the rest, she hopes to find her sister and settle everything.
Although the book started with a huge revelation, I felt it was slow to start up and slightly disappointing. I thought the use of a journal to slowly reveal Alice’s past was a clever idea. I also though that the supporting characters had more of a backstory to them if they were mentioned that often. I did thoroughly enjoy the book towards the end, however.
A memorable thing about the book is the constant incorporation of fire. Through the use of literal fire and a story, the author was able to bring forth a metaphorical meaning as well.
