Read + Review — The Blazing Star by Erin Hunter

blazingstarThe Blazing Star continues to follow Thunder, his father Clear Sky, Graywing, and many others as they cope with the devastation brought by the events of the previous book, “The First Battle”. As the cats attempt to adjust and settle into their niches, forming a semblance of the hierarchy we see in the other series, new devastation is coming. Clear Sky, trying to atone for what he’s done, is in the process of restructuring his cats when he invites a mysterious old cat named One Eye to his part of the forest. While One Eye begins to turn the cats on Clear Sky, a deadly sickness hits the forest, and the only cure is a flower…the Blazing Star.

I like the book because it really fleshes out Clear Sky as a character, as he’s trying to make up for what he’s done and become the leader he’s seen as. The book also serves as a test between the cats’ clans as Gray Wing steps down and lets Thunder take control while disasters hit the forest. The book also shows signs of the clans becoming more friendly, uniting when the disease hits. The book is great. However, the many Warriors series are hard to keep up with and the many characters are hard to track.

One memorable thing is the way One Eye manages to sway Clear Sky’s cats to his side, as well as the mysterious, crafty aura surrounding him and his hidden agenda.
