Teen Review– The Kingdom of Little Wounds by Susann Cokal

The Kingdom of Little Wounds was about two girls, Ava Bingen and Midi Sorte. The setting is the city of Skyggehavn, in Scandinavia, in 1572. Midi is a slave, working in the nursery, and is mute. Ava is from a lensmaker’s family and is working as a seamstress in the castle. The corrupted Lord Nicolas attempts to get both Ava and Midi to work for him, while planning to throw the queen off her throne.

I loved this book. The characters’ problems were my own, and the vivid descriptions made me feel like I was there, too… sometimes not a good thing in this book. I didn’t like the fact that there were a lot of explicit scenes, and that Lord Nicolas was so manipulative. King Christian was also blinded by love and failed to see the flaws in Lord Nicolas.

One thing I really liked about this book was that it gave me an understanding of what slaves and servants lived like.
