In this book, a boy and his father are struggling to eke out a living. His father works for the local museum, but Chairman Mao (ruler of China) is about to close it unless the museum finds a good discovery. The boy’s father is out of town, when three men appear at the boy’s house to show him their find. The boy takes the find, and his very surprised at what he notices. Later that day, the town leader hears about the find and takes it away. The boy overhears that the find is from a great emperor’s tomb, and that the leader is going to steal all of the riches. Is the boy going to stop the leader, or will the tomb lose its precious treasures?
I liked the suspense in this story. The story also shows bonds of love and hardship. In a way, the story tells what it would be like to live in China a long time ago. The characters in the story are related in ways no one could ever imagine.
One memorable thing about this book is that it encompasses many hardships of life in the past.
