National Poetry Month @Dumbarton

National Poetry Month isn’t all about English teachers making mostly-reluctant students pen a few rhymes — you could take a poem out to lunch! Or, carry one in your pocket!

If you’d like to make a bigger splash:

– write a poem and post it on the bulletin board at Dumbarton Area Library

– make a spine poem — on your own shelf, or in Dumbarton’s teen section

– bring a poem to read — one you’ve written, or one by someone else — and share it at Dumbarton’s Poetry Cafe, Wednesday, April 27 at 7 p.m. (event details here)

If you’d like to read something try:

Blue Lipstick: Concrete Poems, by John Grandits.

You Don’t Even Know Me:  Stories and Poems About Boys, by Sharon Flake.

If what you like about books by Ellen Hopkins is that story is told in poems, go to our catalog and do a subject search for “novels in verse”.
